Turkey plans to fine impatient plane passengers who stand up too early or block aisles
The Turkish aviation authority has made a new rule for passengers on airplanes. Many people stand up too early—before the plane has fully stopped and before the seat belt sign is turned off. This can be unsafe and cause trouble for others.
When people jump out of their seats or block the walkway, it makes it hard for everyone else to get off the plane safely. It also puts bags and people at risk of getting hurt.
Now, all airlines flying in or out of Turkey must tell passengers about this new rule. The flight crew will give an updated announcement asking everyone to stay seated and wait calmly until it’s time to leave. They will also warn that breaking the rule could be recorded and might lead to a fine. We don’t know yet when the fines will start.
Airports today are very busy. For example, Dubai International Airport had more than 92 million travelers in 2024. With so many people flying, keeping everyone safe is very important.
Bad behavior seems to be happening more often. Some airlines are also thinking about how to stop passengers from crowding the gate before it’s time to board. Standing in the way doesn’t help—it actually slows things down for everyone.
